Sierra Club Endorsement
I just received my Sierra Club endorsement. Congrats to Mayor P David Tarter and Councilor Phil Duncan as well for their endorsements.
“The Mount Vernon Group of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club is pleased to announce the Club’s endorsement of three candidates, David Tarter, Phil Duncan and Letty Hardi, for the upcoming November 3rd election for three seats on the City of Falls Church City Council.
Our endorsement process, which includes a questionnaire and interview, was open to all five candidates running for office. We asked the candidates about their views on working with neighboring jurisdictions to address climate change, stormwater runoff, tree canopy, environmental certification for buildings, recycling and smart growth.
The three candidates we are endorsing have varied backgrounds but are united in their understanding and support of environmental issues, particularly at the local level. Dave Tarter has a solid understanding of the value of smart growth, bicycling/walking/transit options, and use of LEED in commercial developments. Phil Duncan stated support for expanding transit options and opportunities for walking and biking as alternatives to reliance on cars. Letty Hardi supported development that enables our residents to “live/work/play” without having to drive to other jurisdictions.”
